Il verbo to close, usato in riferimento a qualsiasi attività commerciale, significa chiudere temporaneamente (per poi riaprire): The supermarket closes at 8 p.m., il supermercato chiude alle 8 di sera. Quando invece si vuole indicare una cessata attività è necessario ricorrere al verbo frasale to close down: That shop closed down last week, quel negozio ha chiuso (per sempre) la settimana scorsa.
